Here is how the messages I receive from job seekers usually start:
💬 "Olivera, I am sending resume after resume but not getting interviews… it's been 6 months now.."
💬 "I've worked for [company] for 10 years and just got redundant. I haven't written my resume in years, and I have no idea what to do or where to begin…"
💬 "I'm puzzled that I didn't receive one call for an interview. Do humans even see my resume?"
💬 "I feel hopeless… will I ever get hired again???"
It's heartbreaking…
People face so many challenges in the job market right now - ageism, job gaps judgment, fake job ads, fake recruiters, fierce competition…
Nothing can be more frustrating than seeing your dream job, knowing you'd be great at it, and applying but not getting called. There is not much you can do except to make sure you leverage things that depend on you: the information you provide on your resume and how you communicate throughout the hiring process.
In such a challenging environment, your resume simply cannot be average. Yet, so many resumes I see are average, generic, and poorly written. Hiring has completely changed over the past 5 years, and applying with such a resume is futile.
Don't waste your energy; make sure you get a resume that is optimised, reflects you and your unique career path and is custom-written for your target job.
