Quitting Your Job?

Everyone is quitting (or dreaming about it) these days. 🤷‍♀️

Are you aware that the way you are handing in your notice and leaving your current job speaks about you a lot?

There is definitely a right and a wrong way to quitting.

Here’s the right way to do it:

✅ First and most important - ask yourself what’s motivating you to leave and what you think you need to thrive. This will determine your next career step.

✅ Have another job lined up before you quit OR be sure you have a deep enough financial fund while looking for another job.

✅ Check to see how much vacation or other paid time off you have not yet used and whether it can still be used or paid out.

✅ Tell your boss before anyone else in or out of the office.

✅ Give a minimum of 2 weeks’ notice, however, be prepared to leave earlier if your employer asks you to leave earlier.

✅ Express gratitude to your boss for the opportunity to have worked there - leave on a high note.

✅ Facilitate a smooth transition by ensuring your current projects are wrapped up or in good hands.

✅ Don’t burn any bridges, no matter how pissed off you maybe are - your reputation is everything. Be diplomatic.

Leaving your job for whatever reason can bring up a lot of mixed feelings, especially if you’ve been there a long time.

Change always looks scary at first, especially if you don’t have another job lined up.
