Are You Reading Job Descriptions Carefully Before You Apply?

Even though many job ads can sound like unicorn candidate wish lists, job descriptions can be a powerful weapon for customizing your resume and tailoring your application - if you approach them the right way.

So, what should you do when you see the job ad you’re enthusiastic about?

1️⃣ Pay attention to the preferred and required qualifications - the required (most important) qualifications will often be listed first, so make sure you understand them well and apply only if you meet at least 80% of those qualifications.

2️⃣ Read listed job duties carefully (they are often listed in order from most important to least important) and make a list of the ones you’ve done in your previous jobs.

3️⃣ Employers often include a keyword at the end of the job description, and they ask you to use it later during the application process – they want to check if you thoroughly read and understood the job descriptions, so don’t be too quick on the apply button.

Believe it or not, many recruiters still complain that job seekers do not read job postings carefully and that they deal with tons of applications that do not match the job requirements daily. 👀

Prove them wrong. 💪

Set your target role and apply to the jobs you are qualified for.

Your job search will be much shorter. I can promise you that.

Work smarter, not harder. 🍀
