And more importantly, do you READ the job descriptions carefully before applying?
I know, I know...
Many job ads do sound like unicorn candidate wish lists, BUT job descriptions can be a powerful weapon for customizing your resume and tailoring your application - IF you approach them the right way.
So, what should you do when you see the job ad you’re enthusiastic about?
These 3 things:
1️⃣ Know your qualifications and what a job actually requires
Pay attention to the PREFERRED and REQUIRED qualifications - the required (most important) qualifications will often be listed first, so make sure you understand them well. Apply only if you meet at least 80% of all qualifications.
2️⃣ Read listed job duties carefully
Read them twice - they are often listed in order from most important to least important. Write down the ones you've done before (focus on your results and present them in numbers) and include them in your resume).
3️⃣ Keyword magic
Identify the relevant keywords in the job posting, highlight them, and assign them results and metrics when using them on your resume. Providing context is crucial; forget the ATS.
Have you heard recruiters complain about applications from unqualified candidates? It's a pain—they're swamped with people who haven't read the job ad properly, let alone focused on the requirements and how (or do) they meet them.
Don't be that person.
Be the standout. Show them you're different! 🌟
Apply ONLY for roles that genuinely match your background and skills, and your job search journey will thank you.
Work smarter, not harder. 🍀
